In the week before Christmas the boiler at The Retreat at Betsy's Cove malfunctioned. Temperatures were in the teens, the pipes froze and burst and a fair amount of damage occurred. We are already working to put things back together. The first work crews arrive on Thursday, January 2, 2014. We plan on re-opening the doors within 2 months. Fortunately, the property owner has insurance on the building which will cover nearly all of the construction cost. We are faced with water damage to ceilings, drywall, paint, furniture, insulation, walls and flooring - all cracking, stained, peeling. Much of it needs to be replaced, just 9 months after the renovations and refurbishing of this 100+ year-old treasured and historical community building was completed and we opened our doors for our first year of business.
Just the week before we'd hosted our First Annual High Holiday Tea to benefit two incredibly deserving non-profits in our area. Young ladies and their chaperones had put on their finest holiday dress and experienced high tea served from heirloom silver and china. We've had meetings and retreats, luncheons, celebrations, a holiday high tea and a wedding here this year. All who have visited have vowed to come back, and some already have. The magic of time spent at Betsy's Cove touches every single soul who has been here. We've received thank you notes that have been so sincere and thoughtful that we've shed tears over the good in people and the good that they find and experience in our uniquely beautiful and restorative corner of the world.
As word has gotten around, more than a few folks have extended offers of help, reminding us again of what a wonderful community we are lucky enough to live in.
We don't know exactly how to say thank you, other than simply - thank you. Thank you for the outpouring of support and offers of help. Your kind words and thoughts are so very, very much appreciated. We'll keep you posted on progress via our Facebook page, and look forward to seeing you in 2014!
